Summer Meditation Class Series
July 15th- August 26th, 2019
Mondays 7:30 – 9:00 PM
A series of 6 classes
Regular class rate applies
For new and experienced meditation practitioners alike, this class series is offered as a way of cultivating a meditation community. There are so many benefits to practicing and learning with other people. Often, it’s in these practice groups that we break through barriers that stand in the way of sitting for longer periods of time and going deeper into the practice. Each class will begin with a short yoga practice to prepare the body to sit, and a teaching to set the foundation for that evening’s guided practice.
We will sit for approximately 45 minutes each class. The teachings offered will follow the themes outlined below. They are not rooted in any specific lineage or doctrine – they are mindfulness teachings intended to support and render the practice accessible and relate-able for all.
Bring a yoga mat. All other props are available in studio.
July 15th – Waking up from “the trance”: observing and quieting the faculties of the mind
July 22nd – The law of impermanence: exploring one of the most foundational concepts to the practices
July 29th – Coming back home to our hearts: noticing the part of ourselves that is formless, timeless, always present, and a witness to all that is impermanent
No Session August 5th
August 12th – Deepening the practice and demystifying Samadhi: when our concentration no longer requires effort
August 19th – Delving into the teachings of the body: turning off the cognitive description of our emotional states and tuning into how these live as sensations in our bodies
August 26th – The courage of surrendering and letting go: what to do about everything that is out of our control
